Causes of Solenoid Valve Coil Heating:
Abnormal Voltage
When the voltage is too high or unstable, the coil current increases, leading to heat generation. If the voltage is lower than the rated value, the solenoid valve may not close properly, causing the coil to draw more current and generate excessive heat.
Incorrect Selection
Normally open solenoid valves need to remain open when energized. If a normally closed valve (which opens when de-energized) is mistakenly selected, the coil may remain energized for extended periods, leading to overheating or even burning out.
Frequent Switching
Repeatedly turning the valve on and off causes the coil to endure continuous current surges, resulting in a temperature rise.
High Ambient Temperature
For example, if the solenoid valve is installed near a high-temperature furnace where the ambient temperature exceeds 80°C, which is far beyond its normal operating range, heat is transferred to the coil through conduction. Additionally, high temperatures increase the coil's resistivity, creating a vicious cycle of "rising resistance-increasing heat generation."
Poor Ventilation
If the solenoid valve is installed in an enclosed or poorly ventilated location or near a heat source, heat cannot dissipate effectively. Frequent switching also causes the coil to energize repeatedly, leading to heat accumulation.
Poor Coil Quality
Defects in the winding process can contribute to overheating.
So, how can we address these issues?
Adjust the Power Supply Voltage
When using a solenoid valve, adjust the power supply voltage according to the actual conditions to ensure it matches the valve's rated voltage. This prevents damage to the coil from excessively high or low voltage.
Choose the Appropriate Solenoid Valve
When purchasing a solenoid valve, select the right type based on actual needs. Pay attention to the rated voltage and energization time to avoid coil heating caused by an unsuitable valve.
Enhance Heat Dissipation Measures
Add heat sinks, fans, or other cooling devices around the solenoid valve to accelerate heat dissipation and reduce heat buildup in the coil.
Strengthen Wire Maintenance
The heating of the solenoid valve coil is related to the wiring connections. Ensure that the wire connections are secure, the insulation is intact, and there are no short circuits.
Choose High-Quality Coils
Opt for coils with superior manufacturing processes to ensure reliability and durability.
